Research - Implementation Project "Bridge in 3 months" - Project of the Minister of Science and Higher Education mon. "Technology Initiative"

The project is implemented by an international consortium of scientific institutions design offices and infrastructure construction businesses. The project is conducted by the Road and Bridge Research Institute - a leader in the field of bridge technology in Poland, and participating in the consortium are: University of Lublin, Rzeszow University of Technology, Mostmar, Mostmar-Pal, Intop Tarnobrzeg, Intop Szczecin, MS Good, Promost Consulting, Europrojekt Gdańsk, Project Bielsko, Schmitt Stumpf und Partner Frühauf Ingenieurgesellschaft mbH München (Munich SSF).

It is assumed that, thanks to "Bridge in 3 months" new projects of road and railway bridges will emerge, having a unique design and materials solutions. Thanks to innovative technological solutions and project management, implementation of the construction of the bridge will be possible within a few months - from entry to the building site.

"Development of methods for continuous monitoring of the work of bridge structures during their construction and operation" - a research and development project funded by the Minister of Science and Higher Education

The project aims to develop methods to monitor the work of bridge structures. The method will include two main periods of construction: 1) the construction period and 2) the period of exploitation.

As part of the 1st range of applications, it is expected to monitor the construction of a modern bridge construction, which due to the innovative nature of the conduct often require monitoring of the whole technological processes. Conducting of monitoring of innovative bridge structures can reap the economic benefits associated with the safe implementation of new technologies or improving their use in the future.

The 2nd range of applications is expected to conduct monitoring of operated bridge structures. Monitoring of their work is particularly useful when there is doubt about their work because of outdated forms of construction or their technical condition. Conducting of monitoring of operated bridges can bring real economic benefits associated with the possibility to prolong the safe operation of construction, avoid costly reinforcement or replacement of structures for a new one or more appropriate elaboration of the necessary scope of repair.

"Analysis of possibilities of use of radar technique in the identification of intermediate connections" - the work carried out for GDDKiA (2008-2010)

The goal of the study is to evaluate the usefulness of radar technique in the identification of intermediate connections. In assessing the durability of the surface, the identification of layers connection of the structure is essential and fundamentally affects the quality of the analysis conducted. The use of radar technique and the timing of deflections recorded by a dynamic deflectometer in the assessment will allow to increase the efficiency of evaluation of technical condition of existing roads, improving simultaneously the quality of the technological solutions proposed for the repairs. Positive results of the work will develop a method of interpretation, the results of which will be used in the analysis of stability and reinforcement design of the existing road surface.

"Geotechnical evaluation of subsoil with radar technology with particular emphasis on the hydrological condition of soil" - the work carried out for GDDKiA (2009-2010)

Aim of this study is to develop a methodology for geotechnical evaluation of soil for existing pavements and new sections of road using radar techniques. One of the main objectives of this study will also be to assess the applicability of radar technique in the hydrological assessment of soil. Many international studies have shown the usefulness of radar technique in the assessment of the subsoil. In the cited methods, GPR measurements are a very good complement to traditional research methods. The main advantage of the conduction of this research is the supplementation of information about the layout of subsoil layera between the geotechnical drills as well as the possibility to assess soil and water conditions. The same studies also indicate the need for conduction of research for regional conditions. The present study provides both laboratory and field research of materials most commonly encountered in the ground in Polish conditions.

"Analysis of propagation of surface cracks using radar technique" - the work carried out for GDDKiA (2009-2011)

The aim of the study is to evaluate the propagation of cracks developing "from above" and "from below" on the basis of georadar made measurements, the inventory of surface damage under the visual assessment and automated measurement of intensity of surface cracks. Research will be conducted during the period of 3-5 years for newly built asphalt pavements. Use of standard inventory techniques supported by automated measurements and radar studies will allow precise "tracking" of emerging cracks, which in turn will facilitate the inference of the reasons for their formation. Positive results of the work will develop a method of interpretation, the results of which will be used in the evaluation and design of the reinforcement of existing road surfaces.
